Just because he co-founded frickin’ Apple doesn’t mean that Steve Wozniak is some sort of wooly, barrel-chested, twinkle-toes GOD. He puts his pants on one leg at a time, just like us. Sure, he does it while balancing precariously on a Segway, but still. He’s definitely a man, and not, in fact, an immortal. The quad-core graphics processor in the new iPad's A5X system-on-chip may not quite be able to match a PlayStation 3, but some games industry bigwigs believe it's only a matter of time before Apple's tablet catches up to consoles. In comments made to Reuters, Epic Games president and perennial iPad keynote guest Mike Capps had this to say: "Apple is definitely building their devices as if they care a lot about 'triple-A' games. It is quite easy to imagine a world where an iPad is more powerful than a home console, where it wirelessly talks to your TV and wirelessly talks to your controller and becomes your new console." The comments have more weight than they otherwise might, coming from a company which has historically been on the... Continue reading…

Recently there's been chatter that Valve — the company behind the massively popular gaming service Steam — has been considering getting into the hardware business. Specifically, there have been rumors that the company has been toying with the idea of creating a proper set-top console which could potentially pose a threat to the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Valve co-founder Gabe Newell even recently told Penny Arcade: "Well, if we have to sell hardware we will." At a glance that would simply be interesting fodder for a gaming forum debate, but we've uncovered information that suggests that not only has Valve been secretly working on gaming hardware for the living room, but that the company is actively pursuing a strategy which would...

Try sending a text message at midnight on New Year's Eve, and you'll struggle: there's too much data and not enough bandwidth to cope with it. But now a team of researcher have developed twisted radio waves inspired by pasta, which could allow a "potentially infinite" number of channels to be broadcast simultaneously. More »

. Sadly, this isn’t a joke. SkyBet, part of the UK’s Sky network (News Corp.) is taking bets on iPad 3 specs. I imagine 9to5Mac readers and Apple employees could make some extra money on this if it is legal in your area.

You can download the Windows 8 Consumer Preview (read: public beta) right now, and while we're afraid you won't be able to install it on your ARM tablet, just about any x86 desktop, laptop, or slate in recent memory should be able to run the new OS. All you need is a 1GHz processor, 1GB of RAM (or 2GB for 64-bit), 16GB of storage (or 20GB for 64-bit), and a DirectX 9 graphics card with WDDM 1.0 support. That said, you won't be able to take advantage of all the new features of Windows 8 without a few more specs, and the official Building Windows 8 blog just published a post detailing the rest of the guidelines there: One new element to Windows 8 is the requirement that Metro style applications have a minimum of 1024x768 screen... Last June, Videogamer reported that Microsoft's next home console would be revealed during E3 2012, and that Crytek was already using the hardware to develop TimeSplitters 4 as one of its launch titles; a rumor Crytek quickly denied. Earlier this month, Kotaku reported that the operating code name for the new console is Durango. Today, a now-pulled Tweet from Crytek senior technical artist Sean Tracy seemingly connects these two reports, saying, "Enjoying the Durango developers summit in London. So far, great swag and interesting talks." Tracy had earlier Tweeted that he was "seeing some CryEngine licensee videos," which will go public "later next week." We've contacted Microsoft for a comment on Tracy's reports, and will keep our ear to... Continue reading…
